Ja, hmhm, weet niet, nog nooit gedaan
Zouden jullie over de Colorado rivier door de Grand Canyon willen raften?
Hmhm, ja, de Grand Canyon? Het is wel mooi daar ja
446 km / 277 mijl,
250 stroomversnellingen(rapids),
Ongeveer 28 dagen,
Op een raft zonder motor,
Zonder verbinding met de rest van de wereld,
In de winter.
Of wij hiervoor open staan? Ach ja, waarom ook niet!!
En zo ontstaat het plan voor een nieuw avontuur.
Het geluk is aan onze zijde want wij krijgen een vergunning om een niet-commerciële trip over de Colorado rivier door de Grand Canyon te mogen doen.
De planning kan nu beginnen. De groep wordt samengesteld. HET team!
Het is niet alleen belangrijk maar ook een vereiste dat minimaal één persoon expertise en ervaring heeft met het raften van deze rivier.
Het lukt om twee leuke mensen te vinden die dit hebben.
De groep bestaat uit negen man in totaal. Drie uit de US en zes uit Nederland en België
English praten dus, haha
Om het nodige te leren en ervaring op te doen, doen wij een meerdaagse rafting cursus in de Zuid Franse Alpen. Hier beginnen we pas te begrijpen wat ons te wachten staat.
Samen met de rest van het team zoeken we uit wat we nodig hebben aan materiaal, kleding, etc. Anders dan voor het hiken is het gewicht van zaken nu minder belangrijk.
Waterdicht, warm en comfortabel speelt meer een rol.
Wij doen veel onderzoek. Marc is in zijn element!!
Om in de stemming te komen en onze spullen te testen gaan wij 2 keer met de groep die in NL en Belgie, alias “ The Dutchies”, packraften in de Ardennen.
Na één jaar voorbereidingen is het bijna zover.
Wij hebben er ontzettend veel zin in en vinden het ook heel spannend.
Verhalen en foto’s kunnen wij tijdens onze reis niet delen.
Zoals gezegd: volledig van de wereld afgesloten.
Wel hebben wij een SOS apparaat waarmee we via satelliet een noodbericht kunnen uitsturen. Ook kan het een broodkruimelspoor op een kaart genereren en is het semi-live zichtbaar waar wij zijn (zie live map).
Wij zullen proberen veel mooie foto’s te maken.

Luck is on our side. We manage to get a permit for a noncommercial Grand Canyon Colorado river rafting trip.
Planning can now begin.
A team is put together, THE team!
It is not only important but also a requirement to have at least one person with expertise and experience in rafting this river.
We manage to find two qualified nice persons.
The group consists of nine people in total. Three from the US and six from the Netherlands and Belgium.
Thus we have to Speaking English, haha
To learn and gain experience, we take a multi-day rafting course in the Southern French Alps. It is only here that we start to understand where we got ourselves into.
Together with the rest of the team, we investigate what we need in terms of materials, clothing, etc. Unlike earlier for our hikes, the weight of things is less important now.
Waterproof, warm and comfortable plays more of a role.
We do a lot of research. Marc is in his element!!
To get in the mood and test our gear, we go packrafting in the Ardennes with the part of the group who lives in the Netherlands and Belgium, alias “The Dutchies”.
After one year of preparations, it’s almost time.
We are really looking forward to starting and are so excited.
We cannot share stories and photos during our trip.
As said: completely cut off from the world.
We do have an SOS device so we can send emergency messages via satellite. It can also generate a breadcrumb trail on a map and provide a semi-live view of where we are (see live map).

Sí, hmhm, no lo sabemos, nunca lo hemos hecho.
¿Os gustaría hacer rafting en el río Colorado a través del Gran Cañón?
Hmhm, sí, ¿el Gran Cañón? Es muy bonito allí, sí.
446 km / 277 millas,
250 rápidos,
Aproximadamente 28 días,
En una balsa sin motor,
Sin ninguna conexión con el resto del mundo,
En invierno.
¿Estamos abiertos a esto? Ah bueno porque no!!
Y así el plan para emprender una nueva aventura nace.
La suerte nos acompaña. Conseguimos obtener un permiso para un viaje no comercial de rafting en el río Colorado en el Gran Cañón.
Ahora puede comenzar la planificación.
Se forma un equipo, ¡EL equipo!
No sólo es importante sino también obligatorio contar con al menos una persona con conocimientos y experiencia del rafting en este río.
Logramos encontrar dos buenas personas calificadas.
El grupo está formado por nueve personas en total. Tres de Estados Unidos y seis de Los Países Bajos y Bélgica.
Así que hay que espiquing Ingles, jaja.
Para aprender y adquirir experiencia, hacemos un curso de rafting de varios días en los Alpes del sur de Francia. Sólo aquí empezamos a comprender dónde nos hemos metido.
Junto con el resto del equipo investigamos qué necesitamos en cuanto a materiales, ropa, etc. A diferencia de antes para nuestras caminatas, ahora el peso de las cosas es menos importante.
La impermeabilidad, la calidez y la comodidad juegan un papel más importante. Investigamos mucho. ¡¡Marc está en su elemento!!
Para entrar en calor y probar nuestras cosas, hacemos packrafting en las Ardenas con la parte del grupo que vive en Holanda y Bélgica, alias “The Dutchies”.
Después de un año de preparativos, ya está ahí el momento.
Tenemos muchas ganas de empezar y estamos muy emocionados.
No podemos compartir historias y fotografías durante nuestro viaje.
Como ya se ha dicho: completamente aislados del mundo.
Tenemos un dispositivo SOS así podremos enviar un mensaje de emergencia vía satélite. También puede generar una ruta de navegación en un mapa y proporcionar una vista semi-en vivo de dónde estamos (ver mapa en vivo).
Intentaremos hacer muchas fotos bonitas.
