Wij ruiken naar natuur/Olemos a naturaleza/We smell like nature

🇳🇱Wat kan ik zeggen over de laatste week op de trail? Na een paar dagen geconfronteerd te worden met de gevolgen van bosbranden is het moeilijk om de schoonheid van dingen te blijven zien. Het is heel triest om te zien hoe prachtige groene bossen met gezonde vegetatie veranderd zijn in levenloze zwart gekleurde spookgebieden. Geen struikje, geen grassprietje groeit daar nog. Omgevallen boomstammen liggen continu op ons pad. Voor mij was een laddertje hier handig geweest want mijn benen zijn natuurlijk weer te kort om er overheen te stappen!! Gelukkig zijn er ook stukken waar geen brand is geweest. Hier laat moeder natuur zich dan ook van haar beste kant zien. Zelfs de herten komen ons gezelschap houden! Marc zegt dat dieren niet bang voor ons zijn omdat wij al naar natuur ruiken😜 28 mijl/45km voordat wij het pittoreske stadje Ashland bereiken passeren wij de grens tussen Californië en Oregon. Ondanks dat wij nog terug zullen gaan naar Californië om daar het stuk door de Sierra Nevada te lopen, is de grens overgaan een bijzonder moment. Wij hebben geen twijfels meer: Wij kunnen dit, wij doen dit! 40% van de stappen op dit pad zijn reeds gezet!!
🇪🇸¿Qué decir sobre la última semana en el camino? Tras ser confrontados con las consecuencias de incendios forestales durante unos días, es difícil continuar viendo la belleza a tu alrededor. Es muy triste ver cómo hermosos bosques verdes con vegetación sana se han convertido en lugares fantasmas, negros sin vida. No crecen ni arbustos, ni siquiera una brizna de hierba. Troncos de árboles caídos bloquean continuamente nuestro camino. Una escalera aquí me hubiera sido útil ya que por supuesto, ¡mis piernas son demasiado cortas para simplemente pasar por encima! Afortunadamente también hay partes a donde no ha llegado el fuego. Aquí es donde madre naturaleza se deja ver de su mejor lado. ¡Incluso los ciervos vienen a hacernos compañía! Marc dice que los animales no nos tienen miedo porque ya olemos a naturaleza😜. 28 millas / 45 km antes de llegar a la pintoresca ciudad de Ashland, cruzamos la frontera entre California y Oregón. Aunque regresaremos a California para caminar el tramo de la Sierra Nevada, cruzar la frontera fue algo especial. Ya no lo dudamos: Podemos hacerlo y lo hacemos !! El 40% de los pasos en este camino ya están dados!!
🇬🇧What can I say about the last week on the trail? After being confronted with the effects of forest fires for a few days, it is difficult to keep seeing the beauty of things. It is very sad to see how beautiful green forests with healthy vegetation have turned into lifeless black-colored ghost areas. No bush, no blade of grass is still growing there. There is a lot of fall over and tree trunks are continuously on our path. A ladder would have come in handy here as of course my legs are too short to just step over them!! Fortunately there are also parts where there has been no fire. This is where Mother Nature shows us her best side. Even the deers approach to keep us company! Marc says that animals are not afraid of us because we already smell like nature😜 28 miles / 45km before we reach the picturesque town of Ashland we pass the border between California and Oregon. Although we will still go back to California to walk the section through the Sierra Nevada, crossing the border was a special moment. We no longer have any doubts: We can do this, we do this! 40% of the steps on this trail have already been taken !!
