🇳🇱Het was al lang geleden dat wij zoveel mensen tegen waren gekomen op het pad. Sinds wij uit Zuid Californië zijn vertrokken rond 10 juni is het erg rustig geweest. Tussen Bend en Timberline lodge was het gewoon druk! Het is vakantie hier en dit is een mooi, populair stuk waar men verschillende routes kan lopen. Wij komen veel mensen tegen die één of een paar dagen aan het wandelen zijn. Voordat wij überhaupt maar één woord met ze uitgewisseld hebben weten wij dat zij niet zo lang op het pad zijn: zij ruiken nog zo fris! Ik zie Marc genieten, hij kan eindelijk zijn verhalen kwijt! Wij komen ook Kelly tegen, een nederlandse dame. Via de Whatsapp groep van Nederlanders die nu de PCT lopen wisten wij dat zij dichtbij moest zijn. Zij loopt naar het zuiden en wij naar het noorden dus ergens kruisen onze wegen. Het toeval was hier ook ongelofelijk groot. Als iemand met wie zij samen loopt niet haar fles was vergeten op de plek waar wij even later onze tent hebben opgezet zouden wij elkaar niet ontmoet hebben. Wij komen ook een aantal mensen tegen die wij weken geleden hebben ontmoet en daarna niet meer gezien hebben. Het is zo raar dat dit soort ontmoetingen als een soort van reünie voelen! Na veel gesprekken met interessante mensen en hierdoor bijna een dag later dan verwacht, begonnen wij aan de zware klim richting Timberline Lodge. Hier is de film ‘The Shining’ opgenomen en het ontbijtbuffet dat hier geserveerd wordt is legendarisch! Het was warm en wij zakten continu weg in het zachte zand. Eenmaal boven bestellen wij een heerlijk koud drankje en 5 minuten later herinnert alleen de geur van ons shirt ons aan de zware klim. De volgende dag besluiten wij toch om naar Portland te gaan. Dit is de grootste stad van Oregon, het zou jammer zijn om het te missen. De laatste dagen hebben ook bewezen dat wij het nog leuk vinden om onder de mensen te zijn. 3 bussen, 10 Dollar en 3,5 uur van onze tijd brengen ons in Portland, de grote stad!!

🇪🇸Ya hacia tiempo que encontrábamos tanta gente en el camino. Desde que salimos del sur de California alrededor del 10 de junio ha estado todo muy tranquilo. ¡Entre Bend y Timberline Lodge había apuro! Son las vacaciones de verano aquí y esta es una parte hermosa y popular por donde se pueden caminar diferentes rutas. Nos encontramos con muchas personas que caminan uno o varios días. Antes de haber intercambiado una sola palabra con ellos, sabemos que no llevan mucho tiempo en el camino tanto: ¡todavía huelen tan limpios! Veo a Marc disfrutar, ¡por fin tiene la oportunidad de compartir sus historias! También nos encontramos con Kelly, una chica holandesa. A través del grupo de Whatsapp de holandeses que actualmente estan caminando el PCT, sabemos que ella debe estar cerca. Camina hacia el sur y nosotros hacia el norte, así que en algún momento nuestros caminos se cruzan. De nuevo aquí la coincidencia es increíble. Si una chica con quien Kelly camina no se hubiera olvidado su botella en el lugar donde nosotros montamos nuestra tienda un poco más tarde, no nos habríamos encontrado. También nos encontramos con varias personas que conocimos hace semanas y no hemos vuelto a ver. ¡Es tan extraño que este tipo de encuentro nos parezca una especie de reunión! Después de muchas conversaciones con personas interesantes y casi un día después de lo esperado, comenzamos la difícil subida hacia Timberline Lodge. La película “The Shining” se rodó aquí y el desayuno buffet que sirven aquí es legendario. Hacía calor y nos hundíamos constantemente en la blanda arena. Una vez arriba, pedimos una buena bebida fría y 5 minutos más tarde tan solo el olor de nuestra camisa nos recuerda la dura subida. Al día siguiente decidimos ir a Portland. Esta es la ciudad más grande de Oregón, sería una pena no aprovechar estar oportunidad. Los últimos días también han demostrado que todavía disfrutamos con gente a nuestro alrededor. ¡3 autobuses, 10 dólares y 3,5 horas de nuestro tiempo nos llevan a Portland, la gran ciudad!

🇬🇧It was a long time ago that we had met so many people on the trail. Since we left Southern California around June 10th it has been very quiet. Between Bend and Timberline lodge it got busy! It is vacation time here and this is a beautiful, popular area where you can hike several trails. We come across many people who are hiking for one or a few days. Before we have even exchanged one word with them, we know that they have not been on the trail for long: they still smell so clean! I see Marc enjoying himself, he finally gets to tell his stories! We also meet Kelly, a Dutch girl. Through the Whatsapp group of Dutch people who are currently on the PCT, we know that she must be near us. She is going south and we go north so at some point our paths should cross. Once more the coincidence was incredible. If someone with whom Kelly was hiking with had not forgotten her bottle at the place where we pitched our tent a little later, we would not have met her. We also come across a number of people we met weeks ago and never saw again. It is so strange that this kind of encounter feels like some kind of reunion! After many conversations with interesting people and almost a day later than expected, we started the tough climb towards Timberline Lodge. The movie “The Shining” was shot here and the breakfast buffet they serve is legendary! It was warm and we were constantly sinking into the soft sand. Once we reached the top and the lodge we ordered a delicious cold drink and 5 minutes later only the smell of our shirt reminded us of the tough climb. The following day we decide to go to Portland. This is the largest city in Oregon, it would be a shame to miss the opportunity to visit. The last days have also proven that we still enjoy being around people. 3 buses, 10 dollars and 3.5 hours of our time gets us to Portland, the big city !!
